If you value your safety, you will always want to carry a self defense weapon. In 2008, the FBI released some chilling statistics on crime. Every 22.8 seconds, one violent crime happens. Every 32 minutes, a murder! Every 5.9 minutes, rape. Every 1.2 seconds a robbery occurs. Every 40 seconds, an aggravated assault. Now, I'm not here to scare you, but that scares the hell out of me! You should always defend yourself whether it is to protect yourself or your belongings. In the following paragraph we will go over different types of affordable self defense products, mainly self defense weapons. Of course, if you are trained and can legally carry a gun, that's probably your best bet.
In today's age, compared to the wild west where just about everybody had a gun, rarely anybody does anymore. We have become more professional, laws have changed preventing us from arming ourselves, and many people choose not to carry a lethal device, they would rather carry something non-lethal like pepper spray.
Pepper spray is one of those products that is cheap and works extremely well. You can purchase it for less than $10 at a lot of stores, and you can even get it in a color of your choosing. The reason it works so well is because it allows a distance between you and the attacker. Of course, you don't want to be face-to-face with that person, so you can easily deploy it and run for help. OC, which is the main ingredient in pepper spray, is non-lethal but it is one of the hottest pepper concentrates in the world, which is why it so powerful and used by law enforcement.
On the other end of the spectrum, there are stun guns. First, please
note there are a difference between tasers and stun guns. Taser is a
brand name, and they actually shoot out so that you can use it as a
distance. Stun guns need to contact the skin of your attacker, so
you obviously distance isn't a factor here. However, stun guns are
extremely powerful, they can easily knock a person to the floor or
even knock them out.
Earlier we talked about non-lethal weapons, now we will talk about
"less-lethal". Less-lethal means it may inflict pain or a good amount of harm,
but it isn't lethal, meaning it won't kill you. For example, a police baton. If
you are hit with one of these, you will experience a lot of pain, but you won't
die (as long as you don't take blows to their head). So use caution when using
these types of weapons.
Another example is a kubotan. It is a small, handheld device that you can clip
onto your keychain which will allow you to defend yourself in a pinch. You can
cheap ones for under $5, but you may want quality ones if you want it to hold up
and do more damage(pointed edge rather than a flat edge).
